Participants
Hoops
Against Hunger provides a one-day Basketball Mini-Camp filled
with fun, learning, healthy competition, and games. Campers
play with old friends while making new ones. It's a chance to
sharpen sports skills while helping others within the community.
Participants are asked to bring a donation to the Mini-Camp
to be distributed to those in need in their local area. If a
participant can't bring a donation of non-perishable food, that's
ok. Anyone can participate even if they're unable to provide
a donation.
A
typical Mini-Camp begins at 9:00 a.m. and is filled with campers
learning the basics of the game from local high school players
and coaches, college players, and community center staff. Following
instruction, campers take part in a variety of basketball competitions
- with an emphasis on having fun.
Competitions
include free throw shooting, relay races, three-on-three games,
hot shot games, and other friendly competition. Campers bring
their own lunch to camp, but Hoops Against Hunger provides
free beverages. Many of our campers will be treated to guest
speakers who'll share their basketball knowledge and expertise.
After lunch, competition and courses resume, and the final events
are the all-camp relay races.
Volunteers
Hoops
Against Hunger is a chance to give back to your community
by helping collect and deliver donations, assisting with camp
organization, and serving as a coach or aide on the day of the
Mini-Camp.
Sponsors
Sponsors
have their name associated with a worldwide community service
project that offers meaningful local impact. Based on the level
of sponsorship, sponsors will be visibly identified on camp
T-shirts, in camp promotions, and with on-site banners. Sponsors
can also use the event to boost company morale and teamwork
by encouraging their employees to participate as volunteers
or coaches.
Hoops
Against Hunger is an event designed to bring together the
best efforts of corporate sponsors, community volunteers, and
school aged children for the purpose of developing a sense of
local awareness about the problem of hunger in the world. This
program provides an opportunity for community organizations
to help fight hunger, while gaining visibility, and having a
chance to increase membership.
Each
participating school or community center has the opportunity
to adapt the program to include other local objectives within
the broader scope of the Mini-Camp objectives.
